If the IRA charitable rollover is intended to satisfy your required minimum distribution for the current year, verify with your custodian that this transaction will be completed prior to December 31. If the transaction is not completed prior to December 31, you may be subject to penalties if you have not satisfied your required minimum distribution.

Thank you for considering a IRA gift to us. A sample letter is available to send to your DAF provider. You may save and print the PDF of your letter. If you have email contact information for your DAF provider, you may send a PDF copy of your DAF letter or you may copy and paste the text into an email. You will need to enter the amount of your recommended grant and your DAF account number on the letter before mailing. Benefits of an IRA charitable rollover

• Avoid taxes on transfers of up to $105,000 from your IRA to our organization
• Make a gift that is not subject to the deduction limits on charitable gifts
• Help further the work and mission of our organization or another nonprofit or cause that you care about

How an IRA charitable rollover gift works

1. Contact your IRA plan administrator to make a gift from your IRA to MaineCF.
2. Your IRA funds will be directly transferred to MaineCF to help support us or to support another nonprofit organization through a designated fund, field of interest fund, or scholarship fund held at MaineCF. (Please note that IRA Charitable Rollover gifts do not qualify as a qualified charitable distribution if they are deposited into a donor advised fund).
3. IRA charitable rollover gifts do not qualify for a charitable deduction. Instead, they are not included in your income -which is a benefit regardless of whether you itemize or use the standard deduction.
4. IRA charitable rollover gifts can count as a part of your Required Minimum Distribution for the year.
5. Please contact us if you wish for your gift to be used for a specific purpose.

Ways to make a Charitable IRA Rollover Gift to MaineCF:

• Create your own named fund to benefit Maine
• Add to MaineCF's Invest in Maine Fund, an unrestricted fund to address future needs in Maine
• Set up your own named designated fund, a permanent fund that makes an annual distribution to one or multiple nonprofit organizations that you designate
• Start your own named scholarship fund, a permanent fund to provide educational, and/or aspirational scholarship support for students
• Add to MaineCF's county and regional funds to benefit a specific area in Maine
• Add to a MaineCF fund that provides grant support for specific areas of interest to you, such as the environment, arts, education, and community well-being – or to specific populations in Maine, such as older adults, young children, LGBTQ+, or Black, Indigenous, and other people of color.
